Alanis Cool Again?

Remember Alanis Morissette? This clip is Alanis Morissette's cover and parody video of "My Humps" by the Black Eyed Peas, sung by pop superstar du jour, Fergie. "My Humps" is a song that a Slate music critic called "proof that a song can be so bad as to veer toward evil." Brilliant line, and one I totally agree with. Wish I'd thought of it. This spoof video has got some funny moments but her version of the song itself has a cool Tori Amos vibe and gives this vapid, terrible, catchy song something almost like meaning. It also sounds pretty good. Anyway, enjoy.

Proof that a very bad song can be mined for value by a talented artist.

This features a lot of improvisers who are friends of mine, including my boss, James Grace (artistic director of IOWest and the guy who gets head butted). I had to watch it twice because I didn't recognize anyone the first time.

Pretty good.

They put it up on Sunday and by Tuesday it had over a million hits.

You never know. You just never know.

Kind of makes the decision making process of what they put on TV and in the theatres completly arbitrary and even more of a crapshoot than before.

How long before "You Tube: The Movie" comes out? You know, like Kentucky Fried Movie?

I say sometime during the second season of the Geico Cavemen series.
