Maybe the Very Very Old Will Find it Funny?

Okay, yes, I'm flogging the Joel Surnow thing to death a little, but this was too good not to mention.

In Monday's post, I mentioned the new show that "24" executive producer Joel Surnow was producing for Fox News. Entitled "The 1/2 Hour News Hour", it's supposed to be the conservative answer to "The Daily Show". What I didn't know when I mentioned that was just how soon we'd get a taste of the show. A clip leaked onto YouTube today. To be completely honest, I was a little worried I'd think the show was funny. Like I'd have to eat crow and tip my hat that they'd done the impossible, that is make jokes with a conservative slant funny. But now that I've seen the clip, I can rest assured no such crow eating will ever take place. I'd say this qualifies as Exhibit 2,348B proving conservatives aren't funny.

Watch. Believe.

Well, it ain't the Daily Show that's for sure. The laugh track during the Obama magazine spoof really makes the whole thing look week and those "newscasters" seem like gigantic Seacrest-sized tools. Which might be funny if I thought they were just acting like typical newscaster tools, but I wasn't convinced of that at all, really.

Still, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now. It's only a 2 minute clip from what's presumably their first ever show. I'll allow that there's the potential for humor but it reeks of such a Daily Show clone that it's still going to be hard to take serious even if it succeeds in being funny sometime in the future.

Also, as someone on the youtube talk back pointed out - isn't it wrong having a FAKE news show on a hypothetically LEGITIMATE news channel??? Suppose some of their viewers tune in during that show and have no idea that it's supposed to be fake??? They're not tuning into comedy central, after all...

You are no longer a blogger, Crane. You are a flogger. Crane's Beat-that-assities! Wow! I'm funny enough to be on the 1/2 Hour News Hour! But topping the BO magazine bit will be tough. I mean, come on, it's like an Oprah magazine, but it implies Barack stinks. Now that's comedy!

Well, it's hard to wring comedy from a bit that makes fun of a nice guy that we all barely know anything about. I think there's actually plenty of comedy to be had by making fun of Democrats. But... you gotta pick the dumbass Democrats.

Yeah. This sucks hard.
